That was quick!

Wednesday, February 20 we greeted our first international visitors. Shortly after they arrived in Cusco, we left with them for Puerto Maldonado. From left to right they are Matt, Carlos, Gary, Antonio, and Jon. You may notice that two of them are shorter and darker. Carlos and Antonio are from Venezuela.

We went to Puerto Maldonado for them to get an idea for the size and needs of the city. It is a city of nearly 100,000 people, with only one gospel preaching work. Here we are at the top of an 8-story tower.

The next day, we went to Boca Inambari, an Amaraekaere village where we have ministered before, but where there are few believers, no church, and a great lack of discipleship & teaching.
In order to get to the tribe, we rode about 2 hours upstream, stopping at another village along the way, and about an hour downstream.

We arrived at the airport in Puerto Maldonado only to find that our flight had been delayed due to very angry protest and strike in Cusco. Knowing that they would miss their connecting flight, we decided to hire a private vehicle to take us back to Cusco. Along the way we found this ten or twelve foot anaconda, which had been run over by a car.
All this constituted only our first half of the trip.

  1. Hi Buddy & Loren. This is Shannon Walker from Highlands Baptist in Colorado. I enjoy reading your blog and keeping up with what's going on in Peru. Is that Jon Harris and Gary Greenwood in your photos? I know them from high school. We all went to FaithWay Baptist. Are they missionaries?

    Praying for you,
    Shannon

  2. I am not sure if they are missionaries but God is surely with them as they had the courage to pick up that "snake"!
